1 lb lean minced beef
14 oz tin chopped tomatoes
2 tbsp tomato purée
1 tbsp dried basil
3 tbsp water
1 tsp salt
1 tsp coarse ground black pepper

Method

  1. Heat the oil in a large frying pan on medium heat and fry the beef and onion gently for 5 minutes, until the meat has browned and the onions have softened.
  2. Stir in the tinned tomatoes, tomato purée, basil, water, salt and pepper.
  3. Stir in the fresh tomatoes then lower the heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, cook the spaghetti in a saucepan according to the instructions on the packet.
